 EMP/ATP: APR. 2019 WELCOME TO ACATALEPSY. Welcome to Acatalepsy's third EMP/ATP meme! ACATALEPSY 101 Acatalepsy is a plot-driven world-hopping RPG, in which characters travel from world to world through the powers of Astoria, the Head Witch of the Circle that your character has been drafted into. Your mission, should you choose to accept it? Save the universe. All magical items are nerfed upon arrival, but Astoria allows you to keep one (1) magical weapon/weapon. It may not work within the Temple of Beginnings, but it may work on your travels. Only time will tell. To make up for the lack of powers, your character is gifted an ability by Astoria herself. If you ask why? Astoria will simply smile and say, Because. ♥ . That gift can be anything from creating fire to creating spontaneous birthday cakes to rain from the sky for about an hour -- however, Astoria does not grant anything too game-breaking to her Circle members. She does, however, get creative in her gifts -- she likes to think she's funny. ATP: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Sometimes We Screw Things Up for the Better!

He kills at karaoke, is ready to brighten anyone’s day, and just wants to do good – which is really all you can ask from anyone. Except for maybe slowing down to let the rest of the team catch up. Just a smidge.
Or there's a chance that you're a soft hearted historian, who enjoys music, pop culture references, and fixing history! You also have a skin of steel and the impulse control of a five year-old but I'm sure that neither of those things will get you into trouble here.
And last but certainly not least, oh captain our captain, Sara Lance is always welcome. A badass ninja assassin who's the heart and soul of the Waverider, she is ready to take charge, kick ass and take names. We all need a leader and team mom to kick our butts into gear sometimes: it could be you.

POSSIBLY APPING: Carmen Sandiego
TELL US MORE: A master thief who steals from an evil organization to benefit others (she either returns items to their rightful place or donates proceeds from VILE to charities and such). She's clever, compassionate, and enjoys a good challenge.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? I'm open to suggestions, but right now I am considering three:
a. Power Stealing: She's a thief, why not let her steal other people's powers.
b. Ghosting: Meaning intangibility and invisibility. Playing Maes with that alt. power was fun, though this might make Carmen the OP thief.
c. Mimicry: She can change her appearance to blend in, meaning she can look like other people, copy their mannerisms, voices, etc.

POSSIBLY APPING: Juno Steel (CRAU) from The Penumbra Podcast but with a side of "7 months in
TELL US MORE: So basically imagine space. Now imagine it gayer. Now imagine there's a depressed detective on Mars making his way downtown trying to mind his own business and handle is internal self-loathing while also falling in love with a Master Thief. Did we mention he's also trying to stop the possible end of Mars itself? No? Well he is. Aaaaaand now you basically have The Penumbra Podcast (that's only the first season, kids.) Juno Steel is your typical neo-noir detective with a love of whiskey, trench coats, and dangerous people who actively want to do him harm who spent the last seven months in El Nysa along with dozens of others trying to stop the oncoming Storm :V he's been through this world hopping bullshit before.
Only once. And it was more like he ended up going back through time. It's kind of complicated?????? In any case, he's still surly, he still likes to drink, he still likes to solve mysteries, and he still occasionally has a death wish so he's really perfect.
Maybe less-so after over half a year on a weird magical planet where he sort of kind of made friends with people? Weeeeird.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? Lady Luck, basically Juno's got the ability of luck transference via the ever so unfortunate method of a smooch ranging from a grudging peck on the cheek to a full on lip lock because I'm a godawful person. In exchange for the recipient becoming INCREDIBLY LUCKY Juno becomes INCREDIBLY UNLUCKY. Chaos ensues. Enjoy.

POSSIBLY APPING: Krolia
TELL US MORE: Master spy and trainer of many of the Blade of Marmora agents, she doesn't quite uphold to the philosophy that an agent cannot afford the luxury of emotions. She's balanced a sense of duty with caring for those she's trained, but most of all her son. She's quick, calculating, and never wastes a move.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? I'm open to ideas, as I'm usually terrible at coming up with singular powers. A few ideas I had were:
1. Invisibility: the ability to literally melt into the background. She'd still have to abide by the laws of physics.
2. Metallurgy: Manipulating metal into weapons or useful tools like keys/lockpicks.

Obviously my most-wanted are fellow Frontiers, especially the other two parts of her trio-- but anyone like Klan or Mikhail, too. But give me Deltas, give me OGs, give me 7s, give me people who hear "yes we fight space battles with transforming space planes and music" and go "right, that makes sense."

POSSIBLY APPING: SO I'm definitely bringing A Macross Character, but I'm currently tossing up between Mikumo Guynemer (Macross Delta) and Klan Klang (Macross Frontier)
TELL US MORE: Mikumo is the leader of the "tactical sound unit" Walkure, who travel the galaxy singing to combat the spread of a weird disease called Var Syndrome that drives people to violence. As she's an artificial human literally engineered for her role, she can be a little bit cold and driven about her work, but she really does care about people and gets kind of flustered over having to do Normal Human Things.
Klan is a captain in Strategic Military Services, a civilian military piloting group that gets hired to fight various threats to the Macross Frontier fleet. She's also a Zentradi/Meltrandi, meaning she's naturally about 30 feet tall. She does have a human-sized form, but due to a genetic condition, said form looks like she's about 13 instead of her actual age of 19, so ideally I'd like to bring her in in her normal form but shrunken to less incompatible height by game mechanics. Klan is pretty serious and level-headed, but she very much enjoys a good fight and can have a short temper, as well as being good for serious advice talks and stuff.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? I'm not even sure at this point, honestly...Mikumo I'd be tempted to do something voice-related with considering her job, like some kind of influence by song (since that kind of ties into her canon powers too). Klan doesn't have powers of her own in canon so I'm a bit more flexible with what I might end up doing with her.

POSSIBLY APPING: two choices! either Hanamaru Kunikida from Love Live Sunshine or Cole from Dragon Age
TELL US MORE: HANAMARU is a cheerful country bumpkin sort of girl. She doesn't know how technology works, can only do one push-up, really fuckin loves food, and also loves books & being a school idol. She's got a little bit of self-esteem issues but that doesn't stop her from trying her hardest! She's a very good girl even if s2 of the anime did her so dirty.
COLE is weird. Basically, a spirit of compassion had an identity crisis. He's getting over that, but he still has to learn things like 'boundaries,' 'when to not use your infomoddy mind powers,' and 'not obliquely calling people out on their backstory.' Still, he's a good egg who's main focus is helping people. He is very good at stabbing and not good at staying alive (seriously Cole, this is why I don't bring you into battles)
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? HANAMARU would get 'reading rainbow.' if she takes a look, it's in a book: Hanamaru has the ability to learn one fact a day, though the fact can only be learned while reading something. She can focus this magic if she wants to learn something specific.
COLE is one that I'm torn on. on the one hand, some baby version of his canon powers (empathy, telepathy) would be useful. on the other hand, I kind of want to give him something else that would be inconvenient to everybody else like a zone of truth sort of power. the main theme of his power will still be 'Cole finds some way to drag backstory out of people b/c he doesn't know tact' so hmu if you've got ideas!

TELL US MORE: Actual Anime Superman, but retired. Instead of kryptonite, his weakness is adopting children. Now just a skinny old man with massively busted up internal organs who teaches at superhero high school. Full of bullshit on a personal level, but like, wholesomely??

TELL US MORE: Technically a world-saving hero but with a personality so awful you can easily mistake him for one of bad guys. Hamel is greedy, selfish and likes to abuse his powers for fun and profit. Has a hidden heart of gold somewhere, unless he already pawned it off.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? Idk honestly. Something stupid that can be also effecient with creative use.

POSSIBLY APPING: Steven Universe
TELL US MORE: Steven is half alien gem princess and half human. This mostly means that he has a sparkly pink gem where his bellybutton should be, and uses his magic powers to fight for love, liberty, and peace on Earth, alongside the rest of the Crystal Gems. Recently, that has mostly involved trying to convince the Diamond Authority (the rulers of all gem life) not to blow up Earth, and also to leave his family alone. Haven't totally decided on canon point, but it will be somewhere in the Diamond Days arc.
Steven himself is a empathetic, creative kid who has been forced to deal with a lot of BS at a pretty young age. He's risen to the challenge for the most part, and while it's obviously left some scars, he keeps moving forward and retains his enthusiastic and goofy personality.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? I have a few different options, though I'm leaning towards the first one:
1) Crystal constructs that are powered by feeeelings. Essentially, Elsa ice castle building magic except made of pink crystals, less ridiculous, and with durability dependent on his emotional state. Strong, focused, and determined emotion will make the crystal structures strong, while anxiety and doubt will cause it to become fragile.
2) Also possibly just doubling down on his astral projection power, because that's fun. He can essentially occupy people's dreams or try to possess their bodies, but that sort of thing is harder to make work in RP (and also he wouldn't be very inclined to use it for reasons other than communication.)
3) Fusion, which is a thing that happens in the show a lot. Essentially, Steven would fuse with other characters, resulting in a bigger and stronger combination of the two. That could be fun but would also be more complicated logistically.

though how are pink crystal palaces LESS ridiculous than icey crystal palaces?! I feel like 1 is the most flexible, though 3 could definitely be interesting since, for the most part, Steven would be fusing with humans other than Connie and I could see where that might have interesting possibilities. Especially if fusing with Steven gave them a boost in power or something?It probably isn't as complicated as you think. I briefly played in a Steven Universe based game for a while and whenever we played a fusion character it was just a matter of collaborating on the dialogue and action so that both parties agreed about how it would play out. It was kinda fun really, especially coming up with appearance and personality as well :D You'd have some fun avenues to pursue, though of course this would be a power dependent on CR and I can see where that could be a little intimidating.

TELL US MORE: For those who have seen Naruto but don't remember her, Hanabi is Hinata's little sister. For those who are totally canon blind, she's a minor character who is cute ninja child that is pretty naturally talented at martial arts. She comes from a clan that has special eyes that let them see through walls, at long distances, and nearly 360 degrees.
She's a cute and generally benevolent kid, but since she does come from a ninja village and elementary school aged children there are taught things like how to throw shuriken and make traps, she wouldn't exactly be defenseless or easily frightened.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? What kind of magic power are you thinking for your character? Do you want some ideas? Lay it on us!

POSSIBLY APPING: I posted about Hamel earlier but also considering this girl - Lift from the Stormlight Archive.
TELL US MORE: A 13 year old theif who somehow ended up as a magical warrior. She's rough around the edges but ultimately a kind girl who cares about the little people when other heros forget about them.
POTENTIAL MAGICAL POWER? Something that relates to her Knight Riding powers. Thinking maybe a green thumb that only works with edible plants because she has healing/nurishment related powers. Or, going the sillier route, straight up creating food items, and the fuller she is the more food she can make. Good for when you're hungry or need to drop scalding soup on your enemies.
But she'll steal other people's food anyway because that's just being a good sports.
